We are a body of believers committed to worshipping and serving Jesus Christ. As a Southern Baptist Church, we join with likeminded Christians in spreading the gospel around the world.
Christ reached out to people of all ages and backgrounds and, at Canton First Baptist Church, we desire to do the same. That's why you'll discover here ministries geared to various life stages and needs. We have a place for everyone to study the Scriptures, fellowship together, and minister to others through numerous service opportunities.
We want you to be a part of the blessings of God in the life of our church. We'll bring you updates often on just what's happening at Canton First Baptist Church and share the stories of how Christ is making a difference in people's lives.

This year marked the 400th anniversary in which the Italian astronomer-philosopher Galileo Galilei stood before the Senate of Venice and presented them with a remarkable scientific instrument – the telescope. Though credit for the invention of the telescope is generally given to a Dutch stargazer who is almost forgotten today, Hans Lipperhay, who unveiled his basic telescope the previous year, in 1608, it was Galileo, ever the practical perfectionist, who had already improved upon the basic essentials and produced a variable-focus instrument that increased the size of the observed object by eight times. Distant objects could be viewed much more clearly and calculations made much more accurately than at any time prior.
With the world of stars and star-gazers on the front page, we are called to consider the words of scripture, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights ….” What joy we experience to view the heavenly lights, and what increased wonderful joy we experience as we consider the “Father of the heavenly lights!” Just as a telescope brings the heavens closer, as Jesus followers we confess that our worship, our ministry, our study and our fellowship – all undertaken in the name of Jesus Christ – brings to a closer view the reality and the presence of God. Not that we have to go in search in the Father of heavenly lights, but that He came in search of us in the person of Jesus Christ. To know the Savior is to know the Creator. To know the Son is to know the Father.
With deep joy I invite you to immerse yourself in prayer, study, fellowship and ministry – and as you do – may we together gaze upon the beauty and the grace of the light of our salvation, the light of the world.
Looking Upward with a Smile,
Pastor Jay
